Supportive moms have gathered to send a holiday message to all LGBTQ children, teens, and young adults who are without family support and who would like a “stand-in Holiday Mom.” “Your Holiday Mom,” a nonprofit blog, aims to spread a message of love and acceptance to these young people, and let them know that “Your holiday mom loves you as you are.”
The project, which will run during the 40 days between Thanksgiving and New Years, features 40 moms (dads too!) with 40 messages and stories of love and acceptance. You can visit the site daily or subscribe to receive messages by email each day of the holiday season. Posts include letters, audio recordings, videos, and photographs full of supportive messages.
Check out the kick-off video from 2011 that sparked the inspiration for the site. “As your holiday mom, I accept you,” says a maternal voice in the video. “I care about you. I’m interested in you. I want you to love, and I want you to be loved.”
The heartfelt and sincere messages of these moms are fantastic. Hopefully they reach as many LGBTQ youth as possible, regardless of whether or not they celebrate the upcoming holidays.
