What is an evening of pampering yourself without a face mask, a warm bath, and a few candles to burn? With the steadily expanding market for luxury candles, finding a good candle at a decent price can feel like an investment these days. But U.K.-based candle company Trippy Tuesday will definitely make it worth your while.
Like so many other artistic adventures over the course of this past year, Trippy Tuesday was born out of one of our world’s darkest periods in modern history. It was during Britain’s first quarantine in response to the coronavirus pandemic that founders Sam and Ruth connected through a shared interest in each other’s artwork.
“Since then, what started as a lockdown hobby has turned into a full blown business and a way for us to channel our ideas!” the pair reflect on the company’s live website.
The small business now specializes in body-normative candle making in an effort to subvert the recent, non-inclusive trend of female-figure candles. All Trippy Tuesday candles are vegan and handmade. The company’s ultimate mission is to “normalise the bodies that are so often not represented in the mainstream,” one candle at a time.
Originally stationed at their kitchen table, Sam and Ruth began preparing an array of molds for their second release. The process was messy, but it ultimately paid off when the candles sold out in just 24 hours. The proceeds from these sales have since allowed the pair to secure a studio space last August, where they can be as messy as they like and provide customers with top quality art.
Trippy Tuesday’s wildfire success across the web has earned the company a solid consumer base, and Sam and Ruth’s experimentation with candle colors and shapes really sets the company apart from all the rest.
Today marks Trippy Tuesday’s one year anniversary! After teasing a new drop for weeks in advance, the company just announced via Instagram its intention to expand into body-normative jewelry making. “It’s so amazing to be able to take this next step in our business, and broaden our art so we’re not just making candles but beautiful and long lasting products!” the announcement read. Now available for purchase are a selection of necklaces and earrings made from 100% recycled, fine silver.
It’s amazing to see just how far the brand has come over the course of a year. If you’re ever looking to bring in some good, body-affirming energy, consider patronizing their small business. At Trippy Tuesday, every body is “beautiful from every perspective.”
