In my head, the executives of movie and TV studios are conniving, soulless people who tap their fingers together while squashing creative ideas and forcibly removing the soul of every good show. Turns out, they are less “evil Mr. Burns from The Simpsons” and more “Ministry of Truth from Nineteen Eighty-Four,” carefully misleading the public with euphemisms and propaganda.
When the news broke last week that Sony Pictures had fired Dan Harmon as the showrunner of Community for next season (without so much as telling him), I kept wondering what the actors, who come across as fiercely loyal, would say. According to The Hollywood Reporter, which received a leaked memo sent out to the cast, they won’t be saying much. Just an unemotional refrain of “I am looking forward to starting our next 13 episodes of Community.” Here are a couple example question/responses included in the memo:
Why did Dan get let go from the show?
We’re not made aware of why staffing changes take place, but I will always be grateful to Dan for his great work on the show and wish him only the best. We’re also excited that we’ll be back on NBC’s schedule in the fall and are looking forward to working on those episodes.
Were you aware that Dan was going to be let go?
No, that’s not something we’re consulted on. I’m sad to see him go, but I am looking forward to starting our next 13 episodes of “Community.”
The whole leaked memo can be found here.
