Funny lady Sarah Silverman is no stranger to standing up for women’s reproductive rights. During the 2012 election cycle, she tackled voter ID laws with her usual snark. And back in October, Silverman made a cameo in a video for the Center for Reproductive Rights, which has been defending women’s abortion rights against an onslaught of restrictive state and federal laws.
Now, the controversial comedian is asking men to step up and fight for women’s reproductive rights with a new public service announcement. The “bro-choice” movement has some obvious benefits for guys, as Silverman wittily points out. After all, “the way to a woman’s heart is never through a mandatory vaginal ultra-sound.”
The purpose of this short and succinct video is to call attention (and signatures) to the Draw the Line campaign’s Bill of Reproductive Rights. The bill calls for women’s rights to make reproductive health decisions, and obtain affordable and accessible birth control and abortions, among other things.
Though the 2012 election is behind us, the War on Women rages on; Michigan’s governor is poised to approve some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country and 32 other states have passed abortion restrictions since 2010.
Check out Silverman’s video below –and don’t forget to share it with the “bro-choice” men in your life, for all of our sakes:
