RIP Vic Mizzy

by Web Intern

Vic Mizzy, the mastermind behind theme songs for The Addams Family and Green Acres, passed away on Saturday at the ripe age of 93.

Mizzy, who also wrote the pop-hits ‘My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time,’ ‘Pretty Kitty Blue Eyes,’ ‘The Whole World Is Singing My Song,’ among others, became a professional at the age of 14, when he won a couple of radio contests and toured the vaudeville circuit. During the 40s and 50s, Mizzy wrote numerous theme song gems and solidified his place in pop culture history.

When I was a wee one, the theme song for Addams Family was my jam (and not the MC Hammer one that became famous after the movie!) and can still be heard today during Halloween commercials. Now that I think about it, Green Acres won a spot in my heart as well with Ms. Eva Gabor’s little singing bit. If you only remember Mizzy for those two themes, he won’t give a hoot, for ‘two snaps got me a Bel-Air mansion.’

Vic Mizzy, you’ll be one I most certainly will miss.
