Pussy Grabs Back has become the worldwide slogan against Donald Trump.
Last Friday, leaked tapes revealed TV host Billy Bush and Trump bragging about grabbing a woman’s pussy without consent. Almost immediately, women voiced justified outrage under the hashtag “PussyGrabsBack” to denounce this sad excuse of a presidential candidate, as well as to share their own sexual assault experiences.
Alternative musician Kim Boekbinder launched a music video that promised to “grab back” on election day. The song was inspired by a meme created by Amanda Duarte and Jessica Bennet, author of Feminist Fight Club, as well Boekbinder’s “pure rage” from her own (and others) experiences of sexual assault. The music video features cats heads on dancing bodies with snips of tape from Bush and Trump talking. It serves as a reality check to sexist and racist people out there. The song goes, “We’re not daughters, not wives / We’re humans, with lives / On November 8th, we’re gonna rock it.”
I never thought the word pussy would be so widely used across media outlets. Although I’m sickened by gross the language between Trump and Bush, I’m amazed by the pushback. This November, women are voting, and it might just be pussy that’s leads to Trump’s downfall.
