In Memory of Adrienne Shelly

by Team Intern

If you saw 2007’s ‘Waitress’ starring Keri Russell, chances are you remember director/supporting actress Adrienne Shelly, who nearly stole the movie as Dawn, Russell’s funny, quirky waitress friend looking for love. After the film was released it received numerous awards at independent film festivals. Tragically, just before its release Shelly was murdered in her New York City office by a construction worker.

Monday, August 3, a memorial garden honoring the late Shelly will be unveiled at Abington Square Park located at 8th Avenue and 12th Street in New York. The ceremony will take place at 10am and Shelly’s husband is expected to make a speech. Since his wife’s death, Mr.Shelly founded the Adrienne Shelly Foundation , a non-profit organization that supports women filmmakers. Come out if you can, or watch   the movie that was her latest and biggest hit. I highly recommend it. ~Hannah
