Katy Goodman premiered on the indie music scene with her band Vivian Girls in 2007, and before long we were listening to her from our dorm room radios and relying on her for all our angsty-feminist-dream core desires.
Formerly known as “Kickball Katy,” she’s a pro at blending her riot girl sensibilities with melodic, romantic vocals. Her music is wonderfully poppy and elegant, while also comfortably dark and stormy. Since Vivian Girls, Katy has made musical magic with some really cool people (including Cat Power’s bassist, Gregg Foreman). With her current solo music project, La Sera, Katy both woos us with her Clarissa Explains it All charm, and enacts our most gruesome dating revenge fantasies, like in the video for, ” Never Come Around.” She is pretty much our riot dream girl.
She is also a new, much-needed face in the women-in-tech revolution. A former physics major at Rutgers, Katy is back at school these days pursuing an Associates Degree in Computer Science. Turns out, she’s also toed the line between artist and techie. Read the full story at Fast Company about how this underground musician is making the back-end part of her everyday life.
