Heavy Cream is a three girls for every boy (get it? The band has three girls and one guy) band from Nashville and their full-length debut Danny (Infinity Cat) is a sticky, sweet musical sundae made with equal parts Ramones, Be Your Own Pet, and the Runaways. Released only on vinyl and MP3, the songs on Danny sound like empty soda cans filled with thumb tacks. The guitars here are steady and understated, the drums are tight and cymbal heavy, and the vocals are flippant – it’s perfection. When lead singer Jessica growls “horror/hooooooorror” on “Heart of Darkness,” you can’t help but strike an angry pose and loll your head around on top of your neck like some sort of extra in Rock ‘N’ Roll High School. It’s nice when music can make you feel like a bad ass.
