Goldfrapp

by Laurie Henzel

This past Friday the British duo Goldfrapp, Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, played to a packed house at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall. A perfect Art Deco setting for them. Backed by a five piece band which included harp and key-tars, Alison and Will took their adoring fans on a musical journey with selections from their four albums. Concentrating on the their latest gem, Seventh Tree, Goldfrapp seduced the crowd with songs like ‘A & E’, ‘Caravan Girl’ and ‘Little Bird’. The latter track being extended to a long psychedelic jam complete with colorful acid, op-art lighting and film images which were also used through out the entire show. The band sounded great on older songs too like, ‘Train’, Strict Machine’ and ‘Ooh La La’ which had the audience on their feet and shaking their asses. Miss Alison’s voice was in fine form hitting all the notes high, low and in between. All while wearing an above the knee dress made of wide fringe in pastel colors as she danced, pranced, spun and stomped around the stage, glitter eyed and barefoot. At one point Alison exclaimed that they couldn’t believe they were playing RCMH and were completely overwhelmed by it all. If you get a chance to catch them on this tour, don’t miss it because you’ll be the one overwhelmed by the electro-glam rock, pysch-pop genius known as Goldfrapp. -Michael Levine
