Female nipples are as worthy of celebration as they are controversial. They have literally nursed life into new generations since the dawn of mammals, and yet in some states their exposure remains illegal. The viral #FreeTheNipple campaign has already made an impact in the way the world sees bare chests, as something human rather than pornographic, but a lot more still needs to be done.
Luckily, Robyn and Michelle Lytle, creators of the TaTa Top, have taken the movement into their own hands. The TaTa Top is a bikini top with nipples and it’s nothing short of pure genius. You can make it look like you’re topless even when you’re not, and flout the law without actually breaking it.
The tops are $28 dollars, and it’s totally a worthwhile investment. That being said, wearing one of these is still a pretty bold choice, and it’s important to weigh the pros and cons.
Pros: When you buy one of these tops, not only are you sticking it to the man in the coolest way possible, but you’re also supporting an awesome cause! Five dollars from every purchase goes to the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation. Funny, feminist, and philanthropic? Yes please!
Cons: (Probably) a lot of unsolicited attention from creeps. Harassment from randos is abundant enough when you’re in a regular swimsuit—imagine the amount of nonsense that would accompany a bikini top that makes it look like you’re not wearing one.
But, chances are that if you’re bold enough to wear one of these (or go topless, were it legal), then you can handle a few idiots with no trouble.
As of now, the tops come in three skin tones, but their website promises more colors (and sizes) to come in the near future. I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t wait to get my hands on these TaTas.
