Granted it hasn’t been as hot here in New York as it’s been for the past few weeks, but being still traumatized by the hell mouth of a Summer this has been weather wise, my thoughts have been consumed with how to stay cool. At one point I contemplated filling a Ziplock bag with ice and putting in my underpants like a maxi pad to keep the heat away. It seemed oddly logical at the time, and I haven’t completely thrown the idea away just yet.
For those of us not lucky enough to have air conditioning, the go-to heat blaster is usually some sort of fan that we purchase at a big box store, borrow from whoever, or find discarded on trash day by someone who upgraded to a window unit. If you’re the type of person who is particular about how your household items look (and I am, as far as my bank account will allow), you’ll be interested to know that Dyson, the maker of high end vacuums and such, has released a line of fans that, though pricey, will round out your plan to be cool as a cucumber, or any other vegetable for that matter.
The Dyson Air Multiplier is bladeless, which seems like magic and I still can’t quite understand how it works, even though I own one. The fans come in three styles: A ten inch table fan, a twelve inch table fan, and a tower fan. The lowest model will set you back $300, which could probably get you just about any sort of window air conditioning unit that’s out there, but it wouldn’t be a Dyson, so it just wouldn’t be the same.
