Twitter lost composure yesterday after Durex announced it would release an Eggplant flavored condom. Initially, I was curious. Maybe it could make oral sex more…savory? But, wait..eggplant flavored dick…it doesn’t sound so sexy. I would never be able to eat eggplant parmesan again!
Durex released another Tweet to accommodate to confused Brits, who were left wondering what a eggplant was.
Twitter shared my disgust and shock , especially in India, where Brinjal (Eggplant) is a major ingredient in main dishes.
Well,it turns out it was all a hoax. Everyone can breathe a sigh of relief, Durex isn’t planning on releasing eggplant condoms! Durex simply wanted to educate about safe sex through this clever and hysterical way.
The eggplant emoji has been widely used to represent a male penis. While, symbols of genitilia are common, there are currently no condom emojis. This fake flavor was part of the Durex campaign to get young people to talk about safe sex, and petition for the “world’s first official safe sex condom emojis,” as discussed in CNBC.
Personally, I’d love for there to be condom emojis. I’d text my partner the purple wrapper to make sure he picked up condoms on the way over.
