…and were disappointed in the movie, have I got a comic for you.
Anna Mercury is that rare comic action heroine who’s actually wearing clothes that one could conceivably kick some ass in. She’s also got a mountain of red hair and a bad attitude.
She’s trying to save a futuristic city that may or may not actually exist, and she’s got to do it by herself, and the clock is ticking…
Warren Ellis is the twisted brain behind such gems as Transmetropolitan and the ongoing free webcomic Freakangels , and along with disgustingly talented artist Facundo Percio he’s created yet another world with its own rules and fleshed it out in just three issues, and added a sassy heroine who bends the rules whenever she can and doesn’t have her life tangled up–yet–with any pesky love interests.
Avatar Press is a small company that has managed to attract top comics talent by allowing them to do whatever the heck they want, and finding amazing new artists to work with them. They print on nice paper stock, get actual handpainted covers, and in general make comics that go beyond the throwaway nature of single-issues.
Anna Mercury is pretty much nonstop action, but who’s to say girls don’t like it like that once in a while? I’ve totally got my Halloween costume picked out already…
