The Inside Dirt From Our Fashion Blogger Feature

by BUST Magazine

A few months back, we put out a call for submissions, asking fashion bloggers to send shots of themselves in the outfits they thought they’d be wearing and loving come fall. We received so many amazing entries that it was tough to pick our favorites, but we showed off some fantastic ladies in our August/September issue. We didn’t have enough room to include all the details of these great getups, but have no fear: you can find out everything you need to know below. For details on these bloggers’ outfits and their deep thoughts on fall fashion, read on!

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): I’m wearing a Romwe snakeskin-print blazer, Minkpink laser cut-out button-up shirt, Verali suede pumps, pleated burgundy shorts, gold ankle cuffs and box-shaped clutch from overseas. (I can’t recall how much each piece cost individually, sorry!)

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you? The hints of burgundy, metallic gold, and mixing of textures.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing? I haven’t been keeping up with trends, but I’m beyond excited to deck myself in faux-fur and parkas when the weather gets chillier!

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): Crash & Burn Joan blouse ($78), Tunnel Vision vintage wide-leg paisley pants (gift), thrifted vintage flower bag ($6), American Apparel cape sweater (gift), thrifted vintage black hat ($4), Mad Lady ring/cuff (gift).

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you? I think the bold print trousers mixed with black and white screams fall, cause there’s a little pop of color and print on top of a basic palette. And the vintage floral bag says “Hey, it’s not winter yet!”

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing? Colors/neons, wide-leg trousers, structured items, and statement bags/shoes.

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): The T-shirt is from a market on Broadway in NYC—it was about $10. The jacket is secondhand but from H&M—I got it for 20 dollars. The leggings are from Mix Moss, and the shoes are vintage—I got them for $10. The outfit is kind of grunge-meets-casual, and kind of dressy in a way. I feel like the leggings add a more complex touch to the outfit, making the T-shirt look more rich. I love to mix-and-match different garments that you would’ve never imagined could look good together.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing? Right now, my favorite fabrics are anything with glitter—I think that will be seen a lot this fall!

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): The white and black heart dress was an absolute bargain at £10 (about $15) from a British shop called Primark–heart prints are my favourite. The duffel coat I have had for nearly 3 years and it’s a winter wardrobe staple for me. The clogs are from Lotta from Stockholm. I love to wear them all year round, as they’re so comfy and funky. And a definite “go to” for me each autumn are colored tights–I can’t get enough and have lots of different colors. The gold of these tights really works with the accents of red.

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you? This outfit says that even though the weather may be getting grey, a great colorful outfit can cheer up any day.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing? I will be looking at wearing lots of jewel colors, like purples and blues and greens together, as well as lots of winter florals. I love florals all year and seeing them on the catwalk for Autumn/Winter ’12 made me happy! I especially like the lilac and lavenders and Peter Pan collars that I saw on Peter Jensen‘s coming collection.

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): I’m wearing mostly vintage–the cardigan is from a vintage store in Portland, OR and cost $30. The dress is also vintage and I got it for around $25. The tights are from ASOS–I paid around $14–and the shoes are vintage, too. I think I paid $40 for them.

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you?  I keep seeing dapper or tomboyish looks for fall, in tweeds and varsity jackets, and polished ladylike ones. I sort of mixed the trends with a preppy pleated dress and a slightly oversized collegiate sweater. The colors in the outfit are also what I look forward to wearing in the fall; I want to wear more cranberry shades and offbeat colors like these tights, which aren’t really brown or orange but something in-between.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing?  I love the use of metallics I saw on runways; I’d love to add them into my daily wardrobe. Rich golds and silvers always make everyday outfits seem more glamorous.

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): Knit sweater from GAP ($17 on sale), neon green pleated skirt from Old Navy ($14 on sale), Steve Madden large envelope neon pink clutch ($29 on sale at TJ Maxx), and tan booties from Nine West ($59 on sale).

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you?  Neon and bright colors were all over the runway last September for fall 2012. Although some fashionistas have already embraced that trend for the spring, I vote for neon in the fall. So that you don’t look like a complete ’90s baby, you can pair your bright colors with muted shades for a bit of balance.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing?  Neon is by far my favorite. I love to add pops of color to my wardrobe–my neon skirt was initially a stretch for me, but I love it. I now own four neon bags, tights, and a pair of flats. I definitely plan to add a neon trench for the fall.

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?):  Knit sweater from my vintage shop, vacantmoonvintage.com ($20), J. Crew corduroy skinny pants, $40 wedges from karmaloop.com, and Revlon’s “Va-Va Violet” plum lipstick ($5).

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you?  I relate darker colors such as plum, burgundy, and violet to fall. In this outfit, I matched my lipstick to my pants and wore bright yellow leopard wedges to contrast with the rest of the pieces. I also wore a big chunky vintage knit from my shop. Oversized sweaters are an all-time favorite of mine for every fall and winter season.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing?  I’m looking forward to playing around with monochromatic outfits with darker colors, and mixing feminine and masculine details.

Full Name: Savannah Wallace

Age: 24

Current city: Atlanta, GA

Blog: Maiedae

Outfit Details: Single feather earring by Roots & Feathers ($25), arrow necklace by Roots & Feathers ($32), Ombre Sparkle Dress (worn as a top) by Nasty Gal ($25), chunky cream top by Forever 21 ($19.50), braided belt was thrifted ($3), pleated skirt was thrifted ($4.50), oxford heels by Urban Outfitters ($32), shoulder bag by Target ($25), sterling silver rings by Foundling ($10), brass hinge ring by Forever 21 ($3.80), fox ring by H&M ($5), Lapiz of Luxury nail color by Essie ($8).

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you?  I love this outfit, because the layers keep me warm when the days get a little breezy in Georgia. The neutral combination of colors fits in with the season and the little pops of color and unique jewelry add the perfect touch of interest.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing?  I’m all about the neutrals and the patterns. I love mixing and matching unique textures and pieces together to make something that works perfectly as a whole. This fall I plan to do a lot of pattern mixing and add in those special touches of glam and pops of color with unique accessories.

Full name: Kate Gabrielle

Age: 25

Current city: Princeton, NJ

Blog: Scathingly Brilliant

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): My coat and dress are both from H&M. I think the dress was only about $20, and the coat was around $30. The tights were $8 from welovecolors.com. The boots have been in my closet since high school!

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you?  In the fall, I love pairing muted earth tones with really bright pops of color, like hot magenta! And this coat is definitely going to be a staple in my wardrobe this fall when the weather gets brisk.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing?  Kitschy sweaters and 60’s-inspired velvet frocks.

Full Name: Billie Martineau

Age: 33

Current City: Brooklyn, NY

Blog: See Billie’s outfit photos on Flickr

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): Everything is secondhand. The pants and shirt are from the Salvation Army–I paid $4.99 for the shirt and $7.99 for the pants. I found the blazer at a thrift store in the San Francisco area–I think it cost $15. The shoes are from an outdoor market in Manhattan, and they were $20.

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you?  The colors scream fall to me, and I’m still in love with wearing pants. To me, it feels contemporary and relaxed.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing?  I mostly wear secondhand these days, which makes it hard to follow trends, but in truth I’m looking forward to wearing my collection of colorful array of leggings and tights.

Blog: Funky Fondled and Fresh

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): The dress is vintage– it cost about $30. The necklace is also vintage– I got it for about $75 from a local shop called Replay Vintage. The purse is also vintage, and I paid about $5. The heels are from Steve Madden, and they cost about $70.

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you?  I think the bright colors in the dress combined with the patent of the bag and shoes will work well for this coming fall.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing?  Cigarette pants, statement hats, and faux fur in bold colors.

Full name: Juliana Borobio (aka Lessie)

Age: 20

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): The hat is H&M ($10) and the shirt is from Forever 21 ($20). The skirt is from a local store called AY Not Dead (around $15), the glasses are vintage, and the accessories are from Ebay.

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you?  Statement necklaces, bright colored shirts, and fedora hats are all big for this season!

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing?  I really love layering and mixing textures, so I’m looking forward to buying a fur vest to wear over my leather jacket.

Age: 25

Blog: Vanagon Champion

Please describe the outfit you’re wearing in the shot (Where did the pieces come from? How much did they cost?): This is a mostly thrifted ensemble. My favorite thing to do is mix vintage pieces with new pieces to create unique outfits. The dress ($4), shirt ($2), and sweater (found by My Girl Thursday) are all from thrift shops. The lady tie was c/o Flapper Girl Creations, the knee socks are from Target ($6), the shoes were c/o Blowfish, and the glasses were c/o Tumbleweeds.

What about this outfit says fall 2012 to you?  One of my favorite movies is Love Story, and I was definitely channeling Ali McGraw’s Ivy League style with this outfit. The vintage plaid and schoolgirl vibes fit autumn perfectly and make me feel like I should be heading to class wearing a scarf, with a coffee in hand.

What fall trends are you most looking forward to wearing?  Fall is my jam! I look forward to fall all year long so I can bust out my scarves, boots, and plaid. There isn’t a piece of fall clothing that I don’t love. It’s definitely the time when I shine.
