New York City is notorious for its smells. I mean really, this city stinks. Sometimes it’s trash day stink; some days it’s fish market stink. And sometimes you don’t even know what source could possibly be causing you to hold your breath and speed walk down the block back into the realm of earthly scents. Fortunately next week the Tour de France Restaurant Group will be celebrating the good kind of stinky with their fifth annual Winter Stinky Cheese Festival.
[video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxqycijBUn0 425×344]Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon shined a light on a phenomenon I think we all participate in: Night Cheese. You know that moment when you’re snuggled up on your couch in your slanket after a long day at work, gnawing away on your block of cheddar without so much as the decency to grab crackers? That’s when you’re working on your Night Cheese.
On February 9th, you can participate in a way sexier, more sophisticated kind of Night Cheese at a kick-off event for the festival being held at 404 Event Space. The night will include a booze brawl where Café D’Alsace’s Beer Sommelier Gianni Cavicchi and Nice Matin’s Wine Sommelier Aviram Turgeman will go head to head to determine once and for all if wine or beer pair best with the stinkiest of cheeses.
In addition to the sommelier smack down, there will be tasty dishes from Tour de France restaurants including Bleu Cheese Ice Cream(!!!) from Pigalle, Goat Cheese Tarte from Café D’Alsace and Stinky Cheese Tortelloni with butter & truffle oil from Nice Matin all served with craft beers and top wines.
Tickets for the kick-off event are on sale now via Tour de France Restaurants. General Admission ($38) is from 7:30PM to 10:00 PM. VIP Admission ($53) is from 6:30PM to 7:30PM.
