You won’t see this at the Oscars: an award for “The Fempire” — Diablo Cody, Dana Fox, Liz Meriwether, and Lorene Scafaria — to celebrate their creativity and panache as screenwriters. These female filmmakers and many more will be honored at The Athena Film Festival: A Celebration of Women and Leadership, taking place from February 9-12 on the Barnard College campus in Morningside Heights, NYC.
BUST Magazine is thrilled to sponsor the second year of The Athena Film Festival, which continues to highlight stories of courageous women who have made a difference across the globe. This year’s lineup of screenings includes The Whistleblower starring Rachel Weisz and The Lady starring Michelle Yeoh as Burmese activist Aung San Suu Kyi. Other festival events include workshops and panels and an opening night awards ceremony with awardees like Julie Taymor and the aforementioned Fempire.
Tickets to the festival can be purchased here (with a great deal for students — a $30 all access pass for the full festival!).
