In its third year, the Feminism in London conference is expecting over 1,000 attendees on October 23rd and will feature speakers like Helena Kennedy, Natasha Walter, Beverley Beech, Ceri Goddard, Cynthia Cockburn, and many more. Panels and workshops will cover everything from an anti-porn slide show to feminist parenting, as well as workshops for children, young adults, and pro-feminist men. Brought to you by the London Feminist Network (LFN), a women-only organization formed in 2004 whose mission is to unite feminist groups and individuals, the conference started off with 150 attendees in 2008 and grew to 600 in the second year, proving its effectiveness and importance. “Feminism in London 09 blew me away. I’ve never been to such a moving and inspiring event, and never felt before such a real sense of being part of a movement,” stated a previous year attendee.
Tonight, October 4th, there will be a fundraiser auction of original postcards designed by feminist activists, artists, writers, and comedians curated by artist Sarah Maple at the Aubin Gallery in London. Contributing artists include Riz Ahmed, Viv Albertine, Kat Banyard, Miriam Elia, The Girls, Sarah Lederman, Marina and the Diamonds, Kate Nash, and numerous other talented feminist artists. The event starts at 6:30pm at The Aubin Gallery and is definitely worth checking out.
