The First Aid Kit album has been in heavy rotation here at the Bust office for quite some time now. Our writer, Aurora Montgomery, got the chance to see them play their songs live at The Bell House in Brooklyn last week. Here’s what she had to say about the show:
First Aid Kit played their first New York show at The Bell House in Brooklyn last week. Klara & Johanna Söderberg ,accompanied by a drummer for their set that evening, played acoustic guitar and lead vocals. The younger of the two siblings, Johanna Söderberg, switched between auto harp and a Nord Electro keyboard while adding gorgeous vocal harmonies to her sister’s lead. First Aid Kit’s folky sound was occasionally mingled with a touch of ’60s psych- keyboard feel from Johanna. Mid-way through the set, the drummer left the stage while Klara and Johanna hushed the crowd. They stepped out in front of their microphones and sang their song, “Ghost Town” to a captivated audience. The duo had some cute banter with one another, finishing each others sentences and giggling, before a moving cover of the Fleet Foxes’ “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song.” Once their drummer returned the band played “Lion’s Roar,” a new song they have yet to release. First Aid Kit already wrapped up their American tour, but are worth seeing next time around and worth giving a good listen to. Here’s a video to get you started.
