I am from Austin. I miss it a lot. This weekend I get a taste of home. The amazing Hello Lovers perform with a small orchestra in syncopation and moving images on four screens by Lydia Greer. Goes down in Brooklyn at Monkeytown on October 23rd, 24th and 25th.
Hello Lovers is different from any band I’ve ever heard. And, like I said, I am from Austin…so that is saying something. The musicians range from classically trained pasts in fancy conservatories, to avant garde and experimental negro studies, to ad hoc improvisation. Through noise abandons and punk ethics, Hannah Liddell, Masha Poloska, Mollie Fischer, Leah Celest, Corey Walker, J.C. King, and Caitlin Macklin, make a sound that makes out with your eardrum.
For very Austin treat, on October 23rd or 24th $40 tickets includes a 6-course Mexican feast. Sunday, October 25th, door is $10. RSVP here, to make sure you get a ticket.
