The Orange County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday to suspend funding for Planned Parenthood‘s comprehensive sex ed, because Planned Parenthood provides abortion services. The Board has decided to suspend a contract they have with Planned Parenthood to provide health education for thousands of young people. Keep in mind, NONE of the funding is going towards abortion services, just the sex education that Planned Parenthood provides. As a former Planned Parenthood of Ct intern, I know that the information Planned Parenthood provides is all inclusive; abstinence, birth control, adoption, STD info, they cover all the bases. Jon Dunn, CEO and President of Planned Parenthood for Orange and San Bernandino counties says, ‘It’s clear to me that the agenda of Supervisor Moorlach and the other supervisors willingness to go along with him, are driven more by a religious ideology than an articulate health policy that benefits the people of Orange County.’
I’m so disappointed in the OC Board of Supervisor’s decision. In 2009, a year of new administration and hope for more progressive thought, I can’t believe these folks in Orange County have chosen to take a step backward. Read the original article from the Los Angeles Times here.
