10 Funny Ladies You Need To Be Watching Right Now

Step aside comedy bros, these pee-your-pants funny ladies are breaking through the comedy-industry glass celing. You all know and love Amy Schumer and the gals of Broad City, but it’s time to broaden your horizons and learn about some up-and-comers who don’t yet have their own TV series. Check out these ten hilarious female comics who are making waves and getting some serious laughs. 

1. Jo Firestone (@kingfirestorm)

Jo Firestone is a very busy Brooklyn-based comedian. She hosts several shows including “The Incredible Game Show Showcase,” “The Unexpectashow,” “Punderdome 3000” and “Dr. Gameshow.” And just in case that wasn’t enough, she is a writer for “The Chris Gethard Show” webseries on Fusion and has a hilarious YouTube channel.

2. Aparna Nancherla  (@aparnapkin)

This funny lady lives in NYC and is currently writing for Late Night with Seth Meyers. Her absurdist observational style makes hilarity out of everyday encounters. She begins this set with, “it’s okay I’m surprised I’m a comedian too,” and that honestly just makes you love her more.

3. Kate Berlant (@kateberlant)

Berlant is a stand-up comic, actor and writer. She has performed at small gatherings such as SXSW, New York Comedy Festival, and  IFC’s “Comedy Drop.” She is a creative, weird and dynamic performer who should definitely be one to watch.

4. Michelle Wolf (@michelleisawolf)
Michelle Wolf
Michelle Wolf is a writer on Late Night with Seth Meyers, you may remember her as Grown-Up Annie. She is also a pee-your-pants hilarious stand-up comic who laughs with her whole body, but you probably won’t notice because her descriptive, ridiculous stand-up will have you rolling on the floor.

5. Giulia Rozzi (@GiuliaRozzi)
Giulia Rozzi
The sex-positive grown-ass lady Giulia Rozzi is an incredibly personable storyteller who was raised in Boston and is based in NYC. She has trained at UCB and has a podcast called “Hopefully We Don’t Break Up.” Her second comedy album, True Love, comes out February 12. In it no topics are off-limits, including Italian parents, sex while farting and hooking up with a bro named Brody.  

6. Akilah Hughes  (@AkilahObviously)

She’s Akilah…Obviously and she is an awesome YouTuber known for her hilarious sketch videos, improv (trained at UCB), writing, natural hair maintenance and styling tutorials, and posts about race, pop culture, comedy and just how to be an awesome lady in general.

7. Lane Moore (@hellolanemoore)

Lane Moore

Lane Moore is a comedian, writer, actress living in New York. She is hyper and has the kind of observational comedy that will make you want to be her best friend so she can everyday life things hilarious.

8. Abbi Crutchfield (@curlycomedy)
Abbi Crutchfield
Abbi Crutchfield is a stand up comedian who performs at “The Living Room Show” every Friday. She is also a prolific tweeter and all around funny lady who’s stories of growing up “Cafe Olay” (as she calls it) in Indiana are relatable and hilarious regardless of where or how you grew up.  

9. Cristela Alonzo (@cristela9)

 Cristela Alonzo

Cristela Alonzo will be making her film debut in Angry Birds this year. She made TV history in 2014 by becoming  the first Latina to create, produce and star in a network TV sitcom, Cristela and recorded her first album, The Half Hour on Comedy Central. Her quick, joke-heavy stand up is perfect to plug into and try to smother laughs as you ride the subway.

10. Nicole Byer (@nicolebyer

Nicole Byer

You probably know Nicole from Girl Code or Ladylike on MTV but this  L.A. actress and comedian also has a hilarious YouTube channel and is a great sketch and improv performer at UCB.
