My mom and I are both obsessed with weddings, even though neither of us is getting married any time in the distant future. I guess our fandom is justified, seeing as my mother is a florist who works with brides all the time and I was brought up in that same atmosphere — that is to say, surrounded by happy brides and blooming peonies tucked carefully in hydrangea bouquets.
Here’s my mom and I, presenting at a garden show.
So not so surprisingly, this is how my mom and I have always bonded — by sending each other pictures of weddings we like, dresses we pine after, and gorgeous centerpieces. Well that, and we also send a lot of pictures of pugs back and forth. (A theme emerges.)
So when my mom said I had to start following this blog on Facebook, I checked it out immediately and was not disappointed. The site is called Off Beat Bride, and they focus on indie and quirky weddings worldwide. They allow newlyweds to submit photos of their own weddings, and post incredible tricks and tips for planning your own imminent nuptials.
Some of my absolute favorite weddings featured on the site include Suzy and Arin’s “spooky-glam” wedding in the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles.
…or Monica and Clint’s “Literary Garden Wedding.” Look at that bride’s hair! Swoon!
…And Sam and Erin’s unbelievably cute “Circle” wedding. I may have cried looking at these pictures.
Whether you’re planning a wedding or just like looking at what’s known as “wedding porn” (like my mother and I…) check out Off Beat Bride. You won’t be disappointed.
