If Tina Fey’s new NBC show, and Kristen Schaal’s upcoming ABC series weren’t enough exciting lady-centric television news for you, fear not. Deadline has just reported that Saturday Night Live alumna Maya Rudolph is developing a variety show pilot with NBC!
Rudolph’s last television endeavor, NBC’s Up All Night, on which she co-starred with Christina Applegate and Will Arnett, was cancelled in February. Rudolph then indicated that instead of another sitcom, she was interested in pursuing a variety show. NBC was one of the contenders for the project, and the company eventually ordered a pilot.
After working with Rudolph on SNL for seven years, Lorne Michaels is signing onto the project as an executive producer alongside Madam Rudolph herself. The pilot is reportedly set to air as a special after the Winter Olympics in 2014.
Fingers crossed for the success of this very funny lady. Who better to orchestrate the renaissance of the female-led variety show than Maya Rudolph?
