Project Unbreakable, an organization started in 2011 by then-19-year-old Grace Brown, is an ongoing photo project that centers on survivors of sexual assault. Victims write quotes or stories from their assault on white poster board, and Brown photographs them holding the signs. The project has gained media and Internet attention; Brown herself has taken over 300 photographs, while thousands more have been submitted to the group’s Tumblr account.
Looking at these heartbreaking images, it is notable that most of the photos, both self submitted and photographed by Brown, are of women. However, sexual assault affects all genders, and awareness and consciousness-raising should never exclude anyone.
