In light of last week’s consecutive shootings that left two innocent black men dead, Alicia Keys teamed up with Mic and the We Are Here Movement to bring together 23 celebrities such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Janelle Monae, Taraji P. Henson, Pharrell, Kevin Hart, Tracee Ellis Ross and ASAP Rocky to list 23 ordinary acts that have cost black people their lives due to systemic racism.
Filmed in black and white, the video unnvervingly portrays those who stand with the movement as they deliver to the camera a simple phrase, describing the feeble motives behind the innocents deaths, such as “wearing a hoodie,” “holding a wallet,” and “laughing,” among others.
The video aptly lays down the chilling message, showing why it’s time to take action and absolve the racism that tears through America. #23Ways
At the end of the video, Keys looks directly into the camera, urging viewers to take a stand: “Go to weareheremovement.com to tell President Obama and Congress that the time for change is now. We demand radical transformation to heal the long history of systemic racism so that all Americans have the equal right to live and to pursue happiness.”
